The George Armenis Co,. Inc., founded in 1940, is one of the first olive and olive oil importers in New England.
George Armenis, born in Calamata, Greece, an area known for its olives and olive oil, immigrated to the United States in 1920. Knowing that some of the world’s finest olives and olive oil never made it out of the producing country (Greece), he saw an opportunity to open his own business and expand on his knowledge of the olive and olive oil industry.
In Boston’s North End, George Armenis founded a small store front selling unpackaged regional goods in sacks, barrels and crates, as he started as a local supplier to the ethnic communities.
Throughout the years he built his business of only importing the highest quality olives and olive oil. The building at 10 Lewis Street Boston, where the George Armenis Co. Inc. began and grew, still stands and is our main office. |
